Geography

At St. Joseph's the study of geography gives students an insight into the world and how it alters. The students look at processes which operate in  the physical and human world and pay particular attention to their own local environment. The students study topics  such as soil erosion, migration, traffic management and the growing problem of urban sprawl.

Geography deals with the patterns and processes in the physical and human environment.  Students cover a number of essential concepts that help them learn about these patterns and processes by using and applying geographical skills.

The Junior and Leaving Certificate syllabi deal with these concepts at a local, national and world wide level. The students acquire geographical skills through a combination of classroom work, geographical research and fieldwork.

The course at Junior and Senior Level has undergone a number of syllabus changes.

 

In 1992 the revised Junior Certificate was first examined.
