An Ghaeilge

The Irish Language

Tá dearcadh dearfach i leith na Gaeilge anseo i Scoil Íosaif Naofa. Déanaimid dian-iarracht ár ndaltaí a spreagadh chun a dteanga dhúchais a labhairt. Molaimid dóibh achar a chaitheamh sa Ghaeltacht chun feabhas a chur ar a gcuid Ghaeilge. Gach bliain freastalaíonn a lán d’ár ndaltaí ar na cúrsaí samhraidh seo. Cuireann sé seo feabhas nach beag ar a gcuid Ghaeilge go ginearálta. Táimid thar a bheith sásta leis na torthaí a bhaintear amach sna scrúdaithe teistiméireachta – An Teastas Sóisearach agus an Ardteistiméireacht faoi seach. Uaidh sin uile tá dearcadh dearfach I leith na Gaeilge ag an bhfoireann is ag na micléinn go hiondúil.

Irish and Irish culture are held in great regard in St. Joseph’s. The students are encouraged to speak their native language widely. We recommend them to spend a period in the Gaeltacht to improve their Irish. Every year a lot of pupils attend these summer courses and it generally improves their Irish. We are delighted with the results in Irish obtained both in the Junior and Leaving Certificates. This means that there is a positive attitude to Irish among the staff and the school in general.

Is minic a luaitear an seanfhocal “beatha teanga í a labhairt” agus is fíor é. Uaireanta eile molaimid éinne a dhéanann iarracht an “cúpla focal” atá ar a dtoil acu a labhairt agus nach bhfuil an ceart againn an gríosadh tábhachtach seo a dhéanamh. Mar a dúradh thuas téann a lán dár micléinn siar ó thuaidh go Gaeltacht Árainn Mhóir le linn an tsamhraidh. Bíonn saoire iontach ansin acu i measc phobail bhig a labhraíonn an Ghaeilge mar ghnáththeanga laethúil ón gcliabhán. Más spéis leat do mhac nó d’iníon a chur go dtí an Ghaeltacht iontach seo dean teagmháil leis an Uasal Mánas Ó Luathairí anseo sa scoil nó buail Anseo.

We often hear the proverb “the life of a language is to speak it” and this statement is all too true. At other times we praise people who make the effort to speak “the few words” they know of their native tongue and we are justified in so doing. As we have said above a lot of our students go up to the Árainn Mhór Gaeltacht off the coast of County Donegal during the summer period. There they have a wonderful holiday among a small native Irish community where the language is spoken on a daily basis. If you are interested in sending your son or daughter to the Gaeltacht contact Mr Manas Early here at the scoil or click Here.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Eagraítear imeachtaí difriúla sa scoil i rith seachtain na Gaeilge. Bíonn atmaisféar iontach sa scoil agus taitníonn said go mór leis na scoláirí. Glacann na scoláirí páirt I gcéilíthe, tráth na gceist, cluichí boird, amhrain, dramaíocht agus spóirt trí Ghaeilge. Crochtar postaeir Ghaeilge ar na ballaí agus deannan na scoláirí iarracht níos fear a dteanga féin a labhairt.

Different events are organised in the school during “Seachtain na Gaeilge”. There is a fantastic atmosphere in the school and the students really enjoy the week. The students take part in céili’s, quizes, board games, songs and drama through Irish. Posters in Irish are put on the walls and the students make a better effort to speak their language.
